Game-Changing Crab Recipes

Saturday marks the first weekend in February. Which can only mean one thing.

Super Bowl Sunday.

This deductively means that you, and most everyone else in the U.S., will watch [some of] the game. Most of the commercials. And EAT. an obscene amount of food.

So what will you serve?

Well. You could order pizza. Stop for some helluva-good dip and a bag of chips. Or pull the foil back on a tin can of nacho dip. All of that is safe. In the end zone. But where’s the fun in getting there without a little challenge? All of that would be like the Baltimore Ravens schooling my high school Powderpuff team. Unimpressive.

It’s the super bowl. Which means the food in your bowl must be super. [that’s the definition right?] This year, it’s a battle of the crabs: Blue crabs on the East Coast, Dungeness on the West. And need I remind you? Crab. + Cheap beer. = Good.

First, we have San Francisco: one of America’s greatest food towns. Home of Rice-a-Roni. Fisherman’s Wharf. And sourdough bread.

Then, there’s Baltimore: home of McCormick & Company’s Old Bay Seasoning, crustacean landmarks like Costas Inn, and endless amounts of crab legs, crab cakes, crab dips, crab soups, crab sandwiches, and….well. I think you get it.
